Our Story
Cypress Grill was built from the ground up by John Haug and Troy Authement back in 2002. We lived in the area, and we knew more dining choices were needed. Plus, we missed the food we grew up eating in South Louisiana, and we were just dumb enough to think we could recreate our own version of our favorite neighborhood joints back home. We wanted the soul, the hospitality, and the flavors we so dearly missed.
In 2005, Troy started a new business, and John became sole owner of Cypress Grill. John is still the owner and operator today, over 20 years later. Along with General Manager Chris Goike, who has worked here for over 16 years now, we’ve kept it true to our goals - casual vibes, welcoming environment, friendly folks, and consistently delicious food. We care about our guests, and we want y’all to know it!

We’re proud to be one of Austin’s not-so-best-kept secrets, a laid-back spot where the vibe is easy, the food is satisfying, and the hospitality feels real. Every now and then you find a place to eat that is truly special, where the food is great, the staff cares about you, a local funky joint with that old-school South Austin neighborhood feel. You can bring the kids, come out for date night with that special someone, enjoy our patio if the weather is right, and even see your friends and neighbors. It’s a relaxing, casual atmosphere with seriously good food and drinks.
Whether you’re in the mood for something healthy, something naughty or you just want to fulfill your Louisiana cravings, we’ve got you covered - a Kid’s Menu, a full bar and happy hour seven days a week. All our food is made from scratch, from our famous Crawfish Étouffée, to our salad dressings to our sumptuous Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce. We offer Gulf shrimp and oysters, Louisiana crawfish, catfish farmed in the US, Holmes fresh chicken farmed in Nixon, TX (with no hormones or antibiotics), and if you come to our New Orleans Brunch, you’ll enjoy eggs plucked from pasture-raised chickens.
